We just had our second (out of three) Happy Hour session for the Book League. The book we are currently reading is Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg. Our next book, starting on October 23rd, is The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené
Brown.
Chapter 3 of Supercommunicators is about asking questions to solicit an emotional response from someone (the examples in the book were between strangers) and then being vulnerable yourself as a way to build lasting connections with people.
Being a business book club, my job as the facilitator is to guide the discussion around how the things that we are reading about can be applied to business. It seems like practically every book we’ve read in The League has some application to the sales process and this one really had me thinking.
There is a theme here, I thought. My business coach recently mentioned that sales are becoming more personal. The Leaguers nominated Brené Brown’s book about embracing imperfection as our next book. Are these testaments to the current and future trends in business?
Looking at how I’ve personally changed since the pandemic/George Floyd as well as how the people around me have changed, I see a softer more compassionate world. I’ve been teaching the tenant “You are your brand, just turn the volume up” in Scrappy Branding for solopreneurs. Like, you personally.
So, I am in this inquiry and foresee a brand change for Project Biz Lab that is softer and less in your face. One where I share more about my tribulations that have led to business success (there are lots to draw from!)
