Before we officially get there, I want to acknowledge Suicide Prevention Month.
Entrepreneurs are twice as likely as the general population to have depression. I am one of those people. I have been managing it off and on since my teens at which time I was hospitalized multiple times for wanting to kill myself.
As an entrepreneur, I have been managing it ON with the stance of fighting for my life. If I cannot perform, my livelihood is at stake (and EVERYTHING else.) Therefore, I am extremely diligent in my self-care, working with professionals across multiple modalities.
In writing my book, Follow Your WeatherVane, a few years ago, I found that by recalling certain things and writing about them, I was also reliving them. So I put the book on hold and sought out extra help.
I’m sharing this with you today to let you know that if you deal with overwhelm, you are not alone. And this is the time of year to put on your HappyLight.
Whether you deal with depression yourself or not, this Freakonomics podcast episode is one that I recommend to everyone. It’s entitled “The Suicide Paradox.” There is a surprising lesson about personal power in there.
