Fall is happening so fast! Yesterday was like 80 degrees; today, it’s snowing, and next week is a big election!
As I sit down to write this, I have so much on my mind. And happy Halloween, by the way.
Ok, Sarah, focus. Main biz thing looking FORWARD… here it is: HATCH 2024 Business Pitch Competition. Little did I know in 2011, when I met Charlie Walker from Chippewa Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) and Patrick Donohue from 1M Cups in St. Paul, that I would be working an event in 2024 that brings the two together and that event is HATCH.
Long story short, this is my third year “doing HATCH” with CEDC. It formerly was a startup pitch competition as part of Wisconsin Startup Week. This year, Charlie drops the 💣 that it’s time to evolve… to a business expansion pitch competition. I’ll let you gander at the press release in the Wisconsin Business Press HERE (hey, who does their marketing?) As a business expansion pitch competition, it is a perfect fit for Patrick, who, since meeting him in 2011, is now the CEO of Hill Capital Corporation, which invests in expanding businesses. BAM! Two worlds collide. Patrick kindly accepted my nomination to be a judge at this year’s event.
It shows that you never know where things will end up, ESPECIALLY as an entrepreneur, and how the people you meet along the way will shape your future.

I try to keep these email intros kind of brief, but I want to say a few last words about HATCH: it is an absolute privilege that I get to work on this each year. I don’t “do” event management or promotions for anyone else and this particular event has a lot of spinning plates. I take it on as a passion project because I LOVE being a part of a community that selflessly supports entrepreneurs. We are having the event again at River Bend Winery and Distillery… a perfect, intimate backdrop complete with a fireplace, wine (of course), food trucks, and authentic business pitches.
